What is shingles

The security of the entire building and the comfort of housing depend on the quality of the roof. Therefore, when choosing a roof, pay attention not to its price, but to the reliability and durability of the entire roofing system, because it is this structural part of the building that is most exposed to atmospheric influences. It must withstand temperature changes, wind and rain, snow and icing, and also have good ventilation and fireproof properties. The aesthetic appearance of the roof is also of no small importance. The architectural expressiveness of the building directly depends on the coating material and its shape.

How to make the right choice, taking into account all the necessary properties? Consider the main types of roofing material such as tiles - their features, advantages and disadvantages.

Metal tile

It is made of steel protected by zinc and polymer coating. There are various protective coatings of metal, which vary in their properties. Thanks to this choice, you can choose the material, taking into account the particular requirements of the construction site. The quality of the coating and, accordingly, the price of the metal tile depend on the type of coating. Basic coating options:

  1. polyester is the most economical
  2. plastisol is the most stable
  3. PVDF is the most durable
  4. Pural - the most anticorrosive and color fast.

Today, metal is one of the most popular, relatively inexpensive and most common types of tiles. If you install the metal tile in accordance with all technical requirements, then it will last you 50 years. Its main disadvantage is low sound insulation and special installation requirements.

TOceramic tile

This type of tile is considered the most difficult. However, despite this, ceramic tiles are in demand and popular, as they have a lot of advantages. It is made of clay and its durability is more than 100 years. It is very steady against various natural influences, fireproof, environmentally friendly. It has a wonderful aesthetic appearance due to the variety of shapes and colors. The disadvantages of ceramic tiles is its heavy weight, which requires an increase in the cross section of the rafters, as well as fragility and high cost.

Cement tile

Its appearance is associated with the high price of ceramic tiles, cement tiles are a cheaper alternative. Their properties are similar, but the material from which the cement tile is made is cheaper - it is a mixture of cement, alkali-resistant pigment, sand and water. All the advantages and disadvantages of cement tiles are the same as that of ceramic. The difference is only in price (it is 2 times cheaper) and heavier weight. But there is its own minus - porosity, which leads to flowering.

Composite tile

As well as metal, it is made of steel, and on the outside it is covered with an acrylic primer and a layer of stone granules. Composite tiles have practically no drawbacks. It tolerates various atmospheric influences, has high fire resistance, sound and heat insulation, is well cut and bends, light and environmentally friendly. There are practically no drawbacks. The only one is the cost, which is an order of magnitude higher than that of metal tiles.

Shingles

This is a fairly young type of tile, related to soft types of roofing, which allows covering the surface of complex shapes. The material is also called flexible or soft tile. The main element from which it is made is fiberglass. Outside, the tiles are covered with mineral chips, which can have a different color, and the inner surface is impregnated with glue. The advantages of this type of coating include lightness, sound and heat insulation, the ability to install on any surface. The disadvantages include a short life, non-environmental friendliness, poor resistance to damage.

Before buying a roof, be sure to weigh the pros and cons. There are no ideal roofing materials - they all have their drawbacks. Therefore, study all the characteristics of various types of tiles and decide which ones are most important to you.
